Children and young people

Sunday Club is open to children from about the age of four. On sunday mornings, except when there is a Family Service on the first Sunday of the month, we start off in church and then leave the 9.30 service part way through to go to Church House. We then come back in time for Communion. Activities include Bible stories, prayers, colouring and singing. On the 3rd Sunday of each month the children have a special service in Church House.

Tiny Tots and Toddlers  meet at 9.30 am on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month for a short informal service in church.

Spellbrook  Primary School  is a small, mixed, day school for pupils between the ages of five and eleven. It has accommodation for approximately one hundred pupils and there are four classes. Founded in 1891, by public subscription, to provide education '...according to principles and practices of the Church of England'. The church of Great St.Mary's Sawbridgeworth remains represented on its governing body, thus still fostering a link between the school, the church and the local community. The school's mission is to provide the best education for each child within the context of a caring Christian community. CLICK here for link to the School.

House Groups. Opportunities for bible study, prayer, fellowship, getting to know one another. Afternoons - second and fourth Thursdays. Ask the Vicar or look at the This Week for details. 

The Mothers' Union meets on the third Tuesday of the month in Church House at 2.00-3.30 pm, with a Prayer group on the first Tuesday of each month.  Click on the logo below for link to MU website.

Home Communions can be arranged for people who are sick or infirm.  Please  ask the Vicar or Curate.

Great St Mary's Choir plays an important role in the life and worship of the church.  Choir practice is on Friday evenings. For details please contact the Parish Office.

Bellringing. All ages are welcome. The ringing takes place on Sundays at 9.00 am and 6.00 pm, with practice on Monday evenings at 7.45 - 9.00 pm. The Bell Captain is Fred Bone.

Churchyard Working Party. Meets the first saturday morning of each month. We endeavour to maintain 5 acres of churchyard and undertake a variety of tasks including grass cutting, strimming, tree pruning, drain cleaning and weeding. Details from the Parish Office

Worship

Sunday Services

8.00 am Communion  This is a quiet service with a short sermon. It is said, with no hymns, and on the first Sunday of the month, the language used is traditional 'prayer book'.

9.30 am Communion This is a Sung Eucharist with hymns, music and sermon. The first Sunday of each month is a Family Eucharist with a format to suit all ages. During term time, on Sundays other than the first, there is a crèche as well as optional activities for children offered in our Sunday Club.

  5.00pm Choral Evensong is once a month.

Weekday Services:

10.000 am Wednesday Communion 

Quiet, said, mid week Eucharist with readings and one hymn, followed by coffee and time to chat and meet people if you wish.
